All the knowledge in the world won’t heal your body.

The Somatic Project helps you turn what you learn into... how you feel.

All the knowledge in the world won’t heal your body.

The Somatic Project helps you turn what you learn into...

how you feel.

What is The Somatic Project?

‘Somatic’ comes from the Greek word soma, which means of the body.

Stress and trauma don’t just live in the mind - they’re stored in the body, shaping how safe, calm, or connected we feel each day. While there is plenty of information out there - books, courses, self-help tools, without practicing bringing it into our body, most of it stays in the mind and healing doesn't last.

Traditional approaches (like talk therapy) often focus only on thoughts or behaviours, leaving the body out. Somatics is the missing link: practical tools to reconnect with your body, regulate your nervous system, release stored tension, and restore a sense of safety from within.

The Somatic Project bridges the gap between knowledge in the mind and experience in the body, encouraging you to practice body-based somatic techniques alongside your learning for lasting healing.

Meet The Somatic Project founder:

Claire Sankey - somatic healing and therapy - The Somatic Project

Claire Sankey is an integrative therapist, trauma-informed mindfulness and yoga teacher, and somatic educator. She has trained with leading experts in somatic trauma healing and now guides both individuals and groups in body-based practices for recovery and resilience. Her work has taken her to speak at events and conferences with domestic abuse survivors, charities, military personnel, and medical professionals as well as appear on TV.

Drawing on years of experience working with hundreds of individuals and groups, Claire developed the Somatic Self Healing method, based on the processes and practices she has seen transform lives.

At the heart of her work is a simple mission: to help people reconnect with their bodies with kindness and compassion, and to rediscover the innate wisdom and healing capacity within themselves.

My Story

My passion for somatic healing was born from my lived experience and strengthened through my professional training and work with others.

During my eating disorder recovery, I realised bulimia was the way I had unconsciously learned to soothe my anxiety and suppress unhealed trauma. After bingeing and purging, I felt instant relief - my mind slowed, my body unclenched, I could finally relax. In a way, it was a genius short-term survival strategy. But over time, as with all addictions, it was deeply harmful.

To heal, I needed to learn healthier ways to regulate my nervous system. I had already tried psychotherapy, counselling, journaling - all of which helped in some ways, but never reached the root. Because the truth is: stress, trauma, and anxiety live in the body.

This is where somatic therapy and practices changed my life. They gave me practical tools to self-soothe, regulate, and finally feel the feelings bulimia had been supressing; the fear, shame and anger. Today, bulimia is no longer necessary - my body has new, healthier ways to support me. And those are the very tools I now share with others.

There’s nothing mysterious about somatics. It’s really the science of safety - and I believe everyone deserves to know how to regulate their nervous system.

I’m so passionate about sharing this knowledge and these practices so that you, too, can heal and reconnect with the wisdom of your body.

You don’t have to wait years like I did to start feeling better - healing can begin today...
